Official History of the World Vitiligo Day Updated
📚 History has a funny habit of revealing new chapters when you least expect it.
We’ve just updated the official History of World Vitiligo Day thanks to Dr. Maya Tulpule, who has been at the forefront of the vitiligo movement in India for many years.
During World Vitiligo Day 2026 in Chandigarh, Dr. Tulpule shared important historical details that helped us trace the origins of Vitiligo Day in India back to 2005–2006, when IADVL established India’s National Vitiligo Day on May 19. It’s a fascinating piece of history that had never fully made its way into the global story.
One of the things we love most about documenting this movement is that history isn’t set in stone. As new documents surface and the pioneers themselves share their memories, we get a chance to make the record more complete—and more accurate.
A huge thank you to Dr. Maya Tulpule for helping us preserve this important chapter of the global vitiligo movement.
